BARLEY Barley is of utmost importance for livestock feeding, which accounts for about 85% of barley production. Barley is grown in more than 100 countries: the 10 main barley producers (Russian federation, France, Germany, Ukraine, Canada, Australia, Spain, Turkey, UK and USA) account for 75% of the total world production. In Western countries, most barley grain used to feed farm animals (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and horses, and poultry). In additional, in some countries large quantities of barley, often of naked varieties, are used in human food and drink. | SOYBEAN Soybean is an oil seed crop that represents 49% of the planted area with grains in Brazil, and is one of the most used sources of protein in animal feed intended for poultry, pigs and cattle, with an increase in consumption as human food. The soybean harvest occurs during the months from January to April in the different regions. From agricultural planning to delivery of the product to agribusinesses, it can be up to an 18 months cycle. | CORN Corn is the energy base of the food for poultry, porks and cattle, and is also intended for human consumption. The Brazilian production of corn is the third largest in the world with increases in productivity over the last year. The corn is harvested during the months of June and July on farms that have a 2nd crop. Once harvested, the corn grain is stored on the farm to be sold to customers in the domestic and foreign markets. Only a minor portion of the produced volume of corn is used directly in human food, such as flour, oils, sweeteners, pasta, cookies and other foods in which corn is a component. |
